I've found 2 identical issues on these boards from 2012 with no real solution so far.
I have an alienware m17x with an NVIDIA GeForce 9800M GT graphics card.
I've clean installed windows 8.1 (the only one I could purchase right away in store, wanted windows 7). I did this because the Windows Vista OS was corrupted on both partitions (wouldnt start up, could not repair using Linux cd boot OS).
Now, 3 display adapters are shown in device manager. All three names Microsoft Basic Display Adapter. Demon hunter 2002 rare. Identified as NVIDIA, but no driver details.
NVIDIA software will not recognize any hardware on this machine. Could not install any versions of the driver.
HP support drivers did not recognize my hardware either.
Windows updates ran and installed OK, but only repaired things in 'Other devices' (granted I still have 'Coprocessor' still with issues).
Cannot uninstall this display adapter. and no updates I've done have worked. Please see dxdiag information below, and I hope to get a response!
